FAQs
still have questions?
how long does an EV charger software migration take?

In most cases, an EV charger software migration can be completed within a few days. The exact timing depends on the number of chargers, the existing software platform, and how the site is set up.

With voltshare, we handle the process for you and aim to keep downtime to an absolute minimum, usually around an hour. Many sites experience little to no disruption for drivers.

what sets voltshare apart from others?

We are the only EV charger supplier offering truly flexible pay-as-you-go solutions without any long-term contracts.

can swapping EV charger backend software reduce my operating costs?

Yes, switching software can significantly reduce ongoing costs. Many EV charging platforms charge fixed monthly fees per charger, regardless of how often they’re used.

Voltshare works differently. There are no monthly software fees. Instead, you pay a percentage only when a charge takes place. For sites with variable or seasonal demand, this often means lower costs and less financial risk over time.

can I migrate my Chargeplace Scotland charger?

Yes! ChargePlace Scotland network will stop working by the end of 2025. You'll still own your charging points and can switch the software to voltshare's to continue using them.

what chargers are compatible with migration?

UK regulation requires all EV chargers to be OCPP-compatible, ensuring interoperability and future-proofing. This means we can migrate a wide range of chargers.

Get in touch today to see if we can migrate your software to voltshare.

is the platform really subscription-free?

We are 100% subscription-free; we do not charge a fixed monthly fee unlike most providers. We take a 15% commission fee per successful transaction.

can I monitor the usage of the chargers remotely?

With voltshare’s app and site owner portal, you can monitor your chargers, set prices, check income, and view charging sessions remotely.

can I offer free charging to certain guests or staff?

Using voltshare’s tiered pricing feature in the app, you can offer free or discounted charging to staff or loyal customers.

We have often found that offering free charging may seem like a good idea but few of our venue owners who have done this have seen significant rise in electricity costs and decided to offer paid charging instead.

can I restrict access to my chargers for guests only?

Yes! Our app allows you to set a site access code that you can provide to guests. Only those with the code can activate the charger, ensuring that it's reserved for paying guests.

do I have to appear on a map?

It is completely up to you. Most of the businesses we work with choose to remain private and keep the chargers purely for guest use.

Our app allows you to toggle Off/On for appearing on the voltshare map. This does not update your map visibility on Zap Map or other open source maps.

how does it work for drivers?

Drivers can easily begin charging in two ways: either scan the QR code on the charger and follow the simple on-screen instructions, or download the voltshare app and follow the prompts.

For a visual guide, watch our easy-to-follow walkthrough video here.

can I set different pricing for staff?

Yes! Our app's tiered pricing option allows you to offer discounted charging rates to specific users, like staff or loyal customers.

what happens if there is a technical issue?

We provide 24/7 support for technical issues via our helpline - this is provide on the signage that comes with the charger. Simple issues can often be resolved by restarting the unit or checking the power supply.
