Historic King Edward VI Grammar School Partners with voltshare to Install EV Charging Points

Stratford-upon-Avon school where Shakespeare once studied embraces sustainable transport with new charging facilities.

King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford-upon-Avon has installed new electric vehicle charging points in partnership with voltshare. The school, where William Shakespeare received his education nearly five centuries ago, continues to embrace new ideas and technology.

Established by royal charter in 1553 and also known as King's New School, the grammar school sits in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon's town centre. The charging points serve two purposes: providing staff with discounted rates during school hours and offering public access during evenings, weekends and school holidays.

The decision came after more electric vehicles began appearing in the school's car park, used by both staff and visitors. School leaders saw an opportunity to earn additional income whilst supporting cleaner transport options.

This project reflects the school's commitment to Active Global Citizenship, particularly their 'Sustain' principle: "We will encourage proactive stewardship of the environment and responsible consumption." The charging points turn the school's environmental teachings into real community benefits, showing students and local residents how institutions can make a difference.

The installation goes beyond simply providing charging points. Sustainability expert Peter Hoban provided environmentally focused signage that reinforces the green message, helping people connect their daily transportation choices with environmental concerns.

The project shows forward-thinking from a school that has seen society change across centuries. From teaching England's most famous playwright to now helping the switch to electric cars, King Edward VI Grammar School continues to adapt whilst staying true to its core beliefs.

The additional income from the car park provides practical benefits, but the real impact comes from community leadership. The school's central location makes these charging points available to residents, tourists, and businesses throughout Stratford-upon-Avon's historic centre.
