State school EV charging grant funding is reducing from £2,500 to £2,000 per socket from April, creating a clear window for schools to secure higher funding before the deadline.

Lochend Chalets wins voltshare’s March Venue of the Month for its commitment to sustainable tourism, eco-friendly operations and EV charging for guests.

Lochend Chalets has been named voltshare’s Venue of the Month for March, receiving our ‘Dedication to Being Green’ award in recognition of its long-standing commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism.
Set on the shores of the Lake of Menteith, this family-run retreat has built its reputation not just on its scenic setting, but on the way it carefully protects and works with its environment. Sustainability here is not a recent addition. It’s been part of how the business operates for years.
For Lochend Chalets, sustainability runs through every part of the guest experience and day-to-day operations.
Their eco approach covers everything from energy use to wildlife conservation. The site uses a biomass heating system to power its waterfront lodges, helping reduce reliance on traditional energy sources.
Across the site, small details add up. Recycling is handled through a dedicated local service, biodegradable bin bags are provided, and eco-friendly cleaning products are used throughout the accommodation.
They also actively support local and ethical sourcing, with Fairtrade products provided for guests and locally sourced milk supplied on arrival.

What stands out most about Lochend is that their efforts go beyond simply reducing environmental impact. They are actively enhancing the natural environment around them.
The site is home to a wide range of wildlife, supported through bird boxes, bat boxes and handmade recycled bird feeders placed across the grounds. They are also part of the Our Park conservation scheme, contributing to projects that protect and improve the surrounding landscape within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
This approach reflects a deeper commitment to preserving the environment that makes the destination special in the first place.
Introducing EV charging was a natural next step for Lochend Chalets. It aligned with both their environmental values and the changing expectations of their guests.
Sustainability has always been a key focus for the business, and installing EV chargers was both a practical and ethical decision.
Like many rural destinations, they had already started to see an increase in guests arriving with electric vehicles. Providing dedicated charging removed the need for unsafe workarounds using 3-pin plugs and ensured guests could enjoy their stay without worrying about how they would charge.
By integrating EV charging into their wider sustainability efforts, Lochend has created a more complete experience. Guests can travel, stay and explore the area with a lower environmental impact.

Lochend Chalets shows what sustainable tourism can look like when it is done properly. From renewable heating to conservation work and EV charging, every step they have taken works towards the same goal. Creating a place that people can enjoy without compromising the environment around it.
That is why they are a clear choice for this month’s award.
Lochend Chalets is a great example of how hospitality venues can take a practical approach to sustainability while still delivering an excellent guest experience.
Congratulations again to Lochend Chalets on being named our March Venue of the Month.
