EV Charging on the Isle of Wight and the positive impact it can have on your business

The EV market and the potential

As many of you may be aware electric vehicle sales in the UK are on the increase, there was a 40% rise in EV sales in 2022, and fully electric vehicles accounted for 16.6% of all new vehicle registration[1]. This means that more and more of your guests will be travelling to your properties in an EV and will need to charge it before the journey home.

There are an increasing number of holiday booking websites that have search filters for EV charging. There is one popular booking website that has 1123 properties available on the Isle of Wight, only 65 of them haveEV charging facilities. That is only 5.7% of properties! [2]

An EV charger at your property will increase your visibility to these potential guests. There aren’t a large number of public charge points available in the area, there are only 8 public car park/on street parking locations available.[3]

Introduce a new revenue stream

Whilst installing an EV charger will encourage guests to come and stay, as demonstrated installing one will make you more visible to potential guests and generate bookings. By installing an EV charging point now you will be future proofing your business, EV charging will soon be seen as a necessity, much like Wi-Fi.

You can charge guests for the use of the EV charging point. At VoltShare we let you set your own tariff, including a small surplus on your energy tariff will see you recoup your initial investment and start to generate profit. We have seen our owners get a return on their initial investment within the first 12 months.

Putting you on the map

Whilst the EV charger will primarily be for the use of your guests, if you have a quiet period, or guests not using the facilities there is the potential to advertise the charging point on websites such as ZapMap. Appearing on the map will make you visible to nearby drivers and the increased visibility may also increase brand awareness along with profitability.

Become a more sustainable business

People are becoming more environmentally conscious, and businesses throughout the world are setting sustainability goals, along with green initiatives. Electric vehicles are an essential part of helping the environmental crisis and a charging point can help play a vital role in your sustainability programme.

Through our installations we have a reforestation effort with Tree-Nation and using electric vehicles, and promoting their use would also show a commitment to being environmentally friendly and taking strides towards being carbon neutral as a company.
