Getting electric vehicle drivers to use your charging points isn't just about having them; you've got to shout about it. Here are our tips to making them easy to find, smooth to use, and a pleasure to return to.

We spoke to Badgemore Park, a dynamic leisure destination, about how they enhanced their member and guest experience while boosting sustainability by implementing voltshare EV charging solutions.
Nestled in the scenic countryside just outside Henley-on-Thames, Badgemore Park is far more than just a golf club. As Marc Goodwin, Business Director, explains:
“We’re a leisure and lifestyle destination with an 18-hole parkland golf course, boutique gym, 8-bedroom B&B, and a bar and restaurant—giving us that country club offering.”
Badgemore Park blends tradition and modernity. Originally established in 1972 as a golf club, the venue has evolved in recent years, with the addition of a gym in 2018 and an upgraded hospitality offering that caters to both members and the wider public.
Today, it boasts 500 golf members, who also receive gym access, and nearly 400 gym-only members. A growing events calendar and weddings add to the club's multi-use appeal.
The decision to install EV chargers wasn’t made lightly. Years ago, the club was ahead of the curve with complimentary Tesla chargers, but changing member expectations and rising electricity costs led to a rethink.
“Demand was increasing, and so were energy prices,” says Marc. “We needed a solution that was easy to use, covered our costs, and enhanced our member and visitor experience.”
As electric vehicles became more common among members, guests, and B&B visitors, the need for a paid and reliable EV charging setup grew.
Badgemore Park discovered voltshare through a combination of research and well-timed outreach.
“Voltshare emailed just as we were exploring options,” Marc recalls. “We spoke to a few companies, but after voltshare visited the site and talked us through the system, it became a matter of when, not if, we’d go ahead.”
Three voltshare chargers were installed on-site using the club’s preferred electrician, with voltshare providing platform support and integration. The onboarding process was smooth from start to finish.
“It was hassle-free. The whole experience, right through to how the app works, the reporting, payments, has been seamless.”
Since installation, usage has grown steadily. Golf members now see the value in charging while on the course, and B&B guests frequently enquire about EV facilities before booking.
“More and more members are switching to electric vehicles. With a round of golf lasting four hours, charging on-site is ideal.”
Importantly, charger access has naturally balanced between daytime golf usage and evening B&B guests. Despite initial concerns, usage patterns have aligned well, and charger availability hasn’t been an issue.
With a broad customer base ranging from gym members to overnight guests, Badgemore Park had to keep its charging offer straightforward. Rather than introducing complex pricing models or tiered access, they opted for a flat fee structure that aligns with local rates.
“We looked around at what other chargers in the area were doing and made sure we were there or thereabouts,” says Marc. “We wanted to avoid overcomplicating it for guests, and also for us as a team.”
The simplicity of the voltshare back-office platform also proved valuable. The team can monitor charging sessions, manage pricing, and withdraw funds effortlessly. Crucially, it’s supported by a 24/7 customer service line to assist drivers directly, removing any operational burden from Badgemore’s staff.
While demand from members and visitors was a driving factor behind the upgrade, sustainability was never far from mind. The club is now in the process of forming a dedicated sustainability committee and drawing up an environmental action plan, where EV charging will be one of the core pillars.
“Sustainability was definitely a consideration,” Marc explains. “The CO₂ savings we’re already making are a great proof point, and I think we’ll be adding more chargers in future as demand keeps growing.”
Indeed, the stats already tell a strong story: since installing voltshare chargers, drivers at Badgemore Park have saved over 15,000kg of CO₂: equivalent to over 50,000 electric-driven kilometres.
Marc is clear that when it comes to future expansion, voltshare will be the go-to provider.
“When we need to add more chargers down the line, there’s no question—it’ll be voltshare again,” he says. “We’ve already recommended them to other local clubs. The process was clear, installation was hassle-free, and the support has been fantastic. Can’t ask for more than that.”
