Discover how UK schools can enhance sustainability and support staff by installing EV charging infrastructure using government grants that cover up to 75% of installation costs.

January is rarely a standout month for visitor numbers, which is what makes Wellow Golf Club’s performance all the more impressive. With 21 more charging sessions in January than in December, the club recorded the highest month-on-month increase in charger usage across the voltshare network, earning them our Venue of the Month award for February.
Located on the outskirts of Romsey, Wellow Golf Club is set across more than 200 acres of parkland surrounding Embley Park House, the former home of Florence Nightingale. The site offers 27 holes made up of three distinct nine hole courses, catering for a wide mix of abilities and playing styles. It is a destination venue, rather than a quick stop, which makes steady charger growth particularly interesting.

From the outset, Wellow approached EV charging as part of their long-term planning rather than a short-term add on. Their decision to install a charger was driven by future-proofing the site, responding to the growing number of members who own electric vehicles, and making the most of available government grants at the right time. Reputation also played a part. Being seen as a forward thinking venue matters, especially for clubs that rely on long term loyalty as much as day visitors.
Their experience with voltshare has reflected that long view. From installation through to day-to-day operation, the club highlighted clear communication and ongoing support as key positives. That consistency matters when charging is part of the wider customer experience rather than a standalone service.
Voltshare has been great - from the first day of installation - where the project was well communicated and we were supported as a customer - to today, where our customer support from voltshare remains excellent.

Usage to date has been led mainly by members, with a gradual increase in public use year-on-year. As the club does not offer 24-hour access, uptake has been more measured than at some locations. Even so, January saw a notable rise in charging sessions. The club suspect issues at nearby charging sites may have pushed drivers to look for more reliable alternatives.
That pattern reflects something we see regularly. When local infrastructure is disrupted, drivers gravitate towards venues and charger names they trust. Reliable chargers at well run sites quickly become part of a driver’s routine.
Wellow Golf Club’s January results show that charger performance is not always about footfall spikes or peak holiday periods. Sometimes it is about consistency, reliability, and being ready when demand shifts. That is exactly what Venue of the Month is designed to recognise.
Congratulations to the team at Wellow Golf Club on a well earned win.
